Eravikulam-Rajamalai and Chinnar


Eravikulam-Rajamalai wild life sanctury near Munnar is accessible by road,just 4km from Munnar - Udumalpettu road.It is 135 km from Kochi and is situated at the crest of Anamalai range.It has the largest population of Nilgiri Tahr existing in the world now.Other key fauna include sambar,barking deer, gaur, giant malabar squirrel, tiger, panther, nilgiri launger, lion-tailed macaque, wolf, pigion, blackbird, and jungle crow etc.A rich and varied type of flora can also be seen here . It affords breath taking views of the surrounding area and on a clear day one can even see certain parts of faraway Kochi.Idukki arch dam lies close to the cheruthoni barrage and is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam. the Idukki wild life sanctury is located nearby.It covers an area of 70sq km .Although smaller in size to compare with Periyar national park.the charming lake near the sanctury add to the scenic beauty of the region.
