The area around the Idukki and cheruthini dams ,nearPainavu is perched an altitude of 3917 feet above sea lavel. It affords breath taking views of the surrounding area and on a clear day one can even see certain parts of faraway Kochi.Idukki arch dam lies close to the cheruthoni barrage and is the world's second and Asia's first arch dam. the Idukki wild life sanctury is located nearby.It covers an area of 70sq km .Although smaller in size to compare with Periyar national park.the charming lake near the sanctury add to the scenic beauty of the region.
